The aim of Product of the Week is that the item should have been bought locally and be in some way interesting, unusual or exciting and have inspired us to make a new recipe.
However – occasionally life should be more frivolous and fun than that … and so the Product of the Week for this week is the amazing lollipops we found in Lituanica this weekend. They are made by TuTu in Vilnius, Lithuania and come in four flavours – blackcurrant, fresh apple, hot cinnamon and the one we chose salted coffee. It has whole roasted coffee beans enrobed in sweet and salted toffee.
These are real designer lollipops – and at £1.99 they’re not cheap – but they are so beautiful and taste … well, natural.
According to the packaging they are natural candies with no GMO, gluten free, allergen free and vegan friendly. the ingredients are certainly simple enough – sugar, glucose syrup, water, coffee beans, Himalayan salt, and extract of Cryptocarya Massoi – which a Wiki search tells me is an essential oil of the Laurel family and something like cinnamon.
You can check out TuTu on their Facebook page or at www.tutu.lt if you can read Lithuanian. I can’t, but I’ll leave you with the translation of their Facebook photo: ‘Gyvenimas yra grazus ir niekada nesibaig’ – Life is beautiful and never ends.
