We’ve been eagerly waiting for the re-opening of The Chequers – a pub with history on the Walthamstow High Street. Since Kitty, the Thai chef and the crew behind the bar departed it’s been a waiting game to see what Antic were going to produce.
The answer was unveiled tonight – it’s rough, it’s just about ready and it’s got beer! There’s real ale, Sagres on tap, and an impressive wine list including Picpoul de Pinet at £17 a bottle – bit steep for E17 but will keep the non-ale drinkers happy.
The decor as expected is half way between your Grandma’s front lounge and a building site – bare bricks, battered chesterfield sofas, dodgy still life oil paintings. But overall we liked it, and they were packing in the punters on opening night. But we really want to know, what will the food be like and when will the kitchen be ready – we’ll keep you posted.
I LOVE Picpoult De Pinet!!!! *rushes off to order more*
