The Bell 617 Forest Road, Walthamstow, E17 4NE
It’s our local pub, the food is always good, the portions are generous at decent prices. The Sunday Roast includes veg, roasties and huge Yorkshire puddings and is served all day. Weekly changing menu of specials, burgers, pasta and sharing board options. Vast range of draft and bottled craft beers. Lovely garden area in the summer. Hosts the monthly E17 Cook Book Club too.

The Castle 15 Grosvenor Rise East, Walthamstow, E17 9LB
Another good pub this time in the village. Bustling with drinkers and diners, they take reservations but save some tables for walk-ins. Well cooked fish dishes. Loads of Sunday papers, log fires in the winter or a sunny backyard in the summer.

Dhaka Tandoori, 103 Hoe Street, Walthamstow, E17 4SA
Indian restaurant and take-away, good on price, flavour and choice of curries.

Eat17 Bar & Restaurant 28-30 Orford Road, Walthamstow, E17 9NJ
We have an enduring fondness for Eat17. Predominately English food – pies, roast duck, burgers, some fish dishes, breakfast at the weekend and Sunday roast. Good quality and value, type of place to impress your mum! Relaxing bar area. They run the Spar next door, home of the famous Bacon Jam and have a second place on Chatsworth Road in Homerton. Booking recommended.

Marmelo Kitchen 69 Francis Road, Leyton, E10 6NT
Ok it’s in Leyton but it’s close to the Stow and is one of our new favourite restaurants for weekend brunch and Sunday roasts. They only open for dinner on Friday & Saturday nights offering a weekly changing limited menu of small plates with a Mediterranean slant. Modern, stripped back decor and communal table dining with quirky mismatched crockery. Innovative cooking with excellent fish and veggie options. Bottled local craft beers and soft drinks; wines by the bottle or glass. It gets really busy so booking is essential. Lovely desserts including slices of homemade lemon or chocolate tarts.

Orford Saloon Tapas Bar 32 Orford Road, Walthamstow, E17 9NJ
Strong, authentic Spanish cooking and flavours. Tapas, specials and Spanish wine list. Expanded into a tapas and deli-shop next door with loads of pavement seating for people-watching in the village.

Sodo Pizza Cafe Hatherley Mews, Walthamstow, E17 4QP
Setting off the artisan sourdough pizza and craft beer craze on Hoe Street. Fantastic for late night pizza cravings. Lovely staff, fast service, & daily specials.

Taste of Sichuan 167 High Street, Walthamstow, E17 7BX
Tasty, fiery Sichuanese cooking – like sister restaurants The Sichuan and Tian Fu but at more affordable East London prices. Dried red chillies (lots of them!) and tongue numbing Sichuan peppercorns, this is authentic, regional Chinese cooking and we love it.

Teras Turkish BBQ Restaurant 117 Wood Street, Walthamstow, E17 3LL
Turkish restaurant and take-away on Wood Street. Lovely food cooked freshly to order including starter mezes, grilled kebabs and baked dishes. Friendly and welcoming staff and beautiful décor.

Turtle Bay The Scene, Cleveland Place, 269 High Street, Walthamstow, E17 7FD
Rum… Reggae… Jerk”. Fun addition to the eating and drinking scene in the Stow – loud, holiday atmosphere every night in this Caribbean bar and restaurant. 2 for 1 Cocktail happy hours are very popular, but I think I’m addicted to the jerk chicken!

Yard Sale Pizza The Old Glass Factory, 15 Hoe Street, E17 4SD
In a relatively small space they’ve squeezed in tables to seat about 24 and a bar with
stool-counter seating at the front, plus a few outdoor tables for the over-spill in the warmer summer months. Massive 18 inch pizza to share. The thin, stone baked pizzas are really tasty with generous toppings and plenty of oozy cheese heading towards an American style pizza. Using local and authentic Italian ingredients. Gluten free, veggie and vegan options.  Nonna’s Gelato ice cream desserts. Cocktails, craft beers, Borough Wines. Open 7 days a week, noon or 5pm – 10/11pm.

Just had a really disappointing Chinese takeaway from Peking Chef. Complained but they didn’t seem concerned. Sadly really gone downhill of late. Won’t be going back.

  4. I’d also support the Naseem’s comment, on Hoe Street, really tasty Indian food and reasonably priced. What about Marilucia that has recently opened on Wood Street, amazing Wood Oven Pizzas. Worth a visit!

    • Naseem’s has been gone for for a while now, but we never really got on with their buffet formula. Now waiting to see what the new Cinar will be like.

Big Yes to Marilucia on Wood Street, fantastic wood fired pizza and tomato garlic bread – I am currently stuck on their Sarda pizza, delicious and they are going to start doing home delivery in 2016 they said … Dangerous to know! Lovely friendly place and a much needed excellent traditional and proper italian pizza place in E17. Thank you Marilucia

Turtle bay – holiday atmosphere? Maybe if you holiday in Westfield. I’ve tried some of the places you recommend and to be frank I think you’ve dropped the bar pretty low. You don’t seem to really differentiate between good quality food and grub.

Hi Ben We rate places that we like based on food, atmposhere and price. It is our personal opinions, you are of course allowed to make up your own mind. Some places change, have a bad evening etc and so we have no guarantees for that. Hope you find some places that you like.

There is only really one good place for food in walthamstow and that’s the pizza outside the rose and crown. Everything else is fairly sub standard. Needs improvement. Some of the places above and on the cafe list are really poor.

  9. I disagree with the Anonymous opinion! The Bell is actually one of my favourite places. I really enjoy the garden outside. The food is always prepared perfectly. You list here include many of my favourite spots.
